5:30 P.M. STORM UPDATE: POWER RESTORATION CONTINUES FOLLOWING HURRICANE HELENE

September 29, 2024

SITUATION UPDATE

As of 5:00 p.m., field personnel have restored power to approximately 83% of customers since extreme wind and rain from Hurricane Helene crossed Ohio. About 13,600 customers remain without electricity since the height of the storm when 83,000 were affected. Our more than 1,400 line, tree and support personnel will continue working until everyone’s electricity is restored.

As crews complete restoration work in their local areas, they are continuing to move to southern Ohio to provide additional support.

SNAPSHOT OF DAMAGE

Below shows the extensive damage to our power lines and equipment uncovered by our crews as of 1:00 p.m. Sunday. These numbers are expected to climb in the southern parts of the state where terrain has made it more difficult to reach equipment. We expect to share updated numbers tomorrow, including the percentage of assessment completed in areas still without power.

  • 103 broken poles
  • 840 spans of wire down
  • 102 broken crossarms
