New Construction Projects

We appreciate your support of and participation in our energy efficiency programs.

As of July 17, 2020 we are no longer accepting new pre-applications for the New Construction Program. If you have already submitted a pre-application, the project will need to be completed and the final completed application submitted by September 30, 2020. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to one of our Energy Advisors. Check back periodically for any updates for future programs.

Incentives for New Construction Projects

The New Construction program offers financial incentives for the design, construction and installation of energy-efficient equipment and systems within new building and major renovation projects. Financial incentives and support are available to all business (non-residential) customers in AEP Ohio’s service territory.

The program provides building owners and designers opportunities to learn more about energy-efficient design strategies, technologies and practices that will produce major renovation projects and newly-constructed buildings that consume less energy.

Ready to plan or begin your project? Our Solution Provider Network includes companies in your area who are trained in our programs and can help you complete your project.

How The Program Works

There are four ways that an AEP Ohio customer can participate in the New Construction Program:

  1. Whole Building Performance
The Whole Building Performance approach supports more energy-efficient designs by providing incentive rates that escalate with increased energy savings. It also provides incentives to the design team, with the customers consent, to help support the additional efforts required. Depending on the building type and stage of construction, some projects may be eligible for an additional Early Design incentive.
  2. Efficient Products for Business
Efficient Products for Business incentives are a great way to take advantage of energy-saving incentives if a more targeted approach is a better fit for the project. Efficient Products for Business incentives are available for lighting, HVAC and other conventional energy-saving measures.
  3. Process Efficiency
The Process Efficiency component is another way to take advantage of energy savings incentives if the Whole Building Performance approach is not a project fit, and when non-standard, energy-saving measures are installed.
  4. My Solutions
My Solutions is a hybrid path within the New Construction Program which allows commercial projects to participate in a Whole Building approach without having to create an energy model.  My Solutions targets office and retail projects that are 70,000sf or less, and provides incentives on a per-square foot basis.  Incentives are based on energy efficient HVAC and lighting design choices, and can be boosted by selecting from additional elective measures.

Project Acceptance

To be considered for participation in this program, please contact the AEP Ohio Business Incentives program team or complete the enrollment and application documents as early as possible in the timeline of your new construction or major renovation project. These documents will help you establish your eligibility and apply to reserve funding.

Pre-approval is required for all Whole Building Performance projects and Process Efficiency applications for new construction and major renovation projects in the AEP Ohio territory. Pre-approval is highly recommended for every New Construction project application due to the limited funding available annually. After all of the New Construction program's annual funding has been committed to projects, final applications submitted without having had received pre-approval, may not be eligible to earn incentives.

Please read the Application Process and the Terms and Conditions and Specifications and fill out the Enrollment section of the application to get started.
