Appalachian Power Partners with West Virginia Public Libraries to Offer Kill-A-Watt™ Meters

June 19, 2013

Area libraries in West Virginia are loaning Kill-A-Watt™ meters to customers, made possible as part of Appalachian Power’s energy efficiency initiative.  A Kill-A-Watt™ meter measures the amount of electricity consumed from household electric appliances and gadgets.

One of Appalachian’s ongoing messages to customers is to encourage awareness of computers, cell phone chargers and other items that are plugged in but not in use.

“Kill-A-Watt™ meters can quickly identify the biggest opportunities for savings, which goes along with our company’s energy efficiency program goals,” said Jim Fawcett, manager – energy efficiency and consumer programs.

Meter kits are equipped with instructions, tracking sheets and a meter.  The following libraries are participating: Boone County in Madison, Cabell County in Huntington, Clay County in Clay, Craft Memorial in Bluefield (Mercer County), Fayette County in Oak Hill, Greenbrier County in Alderson, Lewisburg and Rainelle, Hamlin-Lincoln County in Hamlin, Jackson County in Ripley, Kanawha County in Cross Lanes, Logan County in Logan, Mason County in Hannan, Mason City, New Haven and Pt. Pleasant,  Mingo County in Delbarton and Williamson, Monroe County in Union, Putnam County in Hurricane, Raleigh County in Beckley, Roane County in Spencer, Rupert Public Library in Rupert, Wayne County in Kenova, West Virginia Library Commission in Charleston, and Wyoming County in Pineville.
