In recognition of Energy Efficiency Day, Ohio Power Company is encouraging customers to take simple steps now to prepare their homes for the cooler months ahead to help save energy and money.

“Energy Efficiency Day is a great reminder that small changes around the house can make an impact on your energy use and electric bill,” said Deanna Gilliand, Ohio Power energy efficiency and consumer programs manager. “Whether it’s making adjustments to your thermostat, utilizing our free online tools or booking a virtual walkthrough, Ohio Power offers several solutions to help our customers manage their energy usage.”

AEP Ohio is becoming Ohio Power Company and introducing a redesigned monthly electric bill to give customers clearer, easier-to-understand information about their electric service and costs.

AEP Ohio will make upgrades to the power grid across several southern Ohio counties. The company plans to complete work that will make additional sources of power available to Pike, Scioto and Lawrence counties. The work is needed to serve a data center campus planned for the site of the former gaseous diffusion plant in Piketon, Ohio. The customer is committed to paying for the transmission investments needed to serve the site to help avoid increases to transmission rates for Ohio residents.

AEP Ohio representatives have announced plans to upgrade the electric transmission grid in Gallia County and improve reliability for area customers.

AEP Ohio has launched its new Virtual Home Energy Savings Walkthrough program, giving residential customers a convenient way to better understand their home’s energy use and identify personalized opportunities to save money and energy.

AEP Ohio and five data center companies announced a first-of-its-kind effort to provide more than $18 million in additional funding to help Ohioans pay their electric bills. The funds will support AEP Ohio’s long-running Neighbor to Neighbor program, which provides grants to cover electric bills for people experiencing financial hardship.

Around-the-clock restoration efforts continue across AEP Ohio’s service territory following severe weather that started August 10, 2026.

At the height of the storms, more than 135,000 customers lost power. New storms yesterday, along with additional severe weather expected today, have continued to cause outages and some customers have been without power more than once. AEP Ohio has restored power to about 135,000 customers so far this week.  

AEP Ohio is planning to upgrade the electric transmission grid in Van Wert County to meet growing power needs in the area.
